Be like The Flowers of the Fields

Be like The Flowers of the Fields

Come on in for a moment into our corner of the world!  Away from the chaos and into our little online shop. Let’s chat for a moment about life before you head back out and on your way to what is next on your to do list today.

Have you ever noticed how some flowers grow in the craziest of places, like along a dusty roadside, and yet they bloom with so much glory and add their beauty right where they are?

Some people are exactly the same as those amazing flowers. Life seems to have placed them in the lousiest of situations and yet they smile and encourage and spread kindness right where they are. They bring beauty to the lives of those they come into contact with using only the simple tools at hand. Nothing fancy. But the effects are stunning. Who do you think of that is just like that?  Next time you see them thank them for the beauty they add to everyday life.

If you have ever attempted to grow flowers you know that some of them are so finicky!  The soul must be just right. The sunlight and temps must be just so. If they don’t get exactly what they need they simply wilt and their beauty never shines forth.  Yet other flowers can be totally neglected and they will share their beauty to all who pass by.

We can surely take a lesson from the flowers of the fields.  In this world of Pinterest and perfection it is easy to behave like the finicky flowers.  We can refuse to use what God has provided us with to make life more beautiful for those around us.  With no grand kitchen we refuse to make delicious foods for chubby little hands to grab.  With no large table we can refuse to feed souls with fellowship while we feed their bodies with nourishment.  With no space to garden we can refuse to use flowers to cheer up a room.  With no riches we can refuse to use our smile and kindness to love deeply those around us.

Or we can be like the wild daisies. Not worrying if we have enough or just the right things. They sprout up wherever they are and use exactly what God has provided them with to bloom and show the world His love and goodness.  They don’t look longingly at the rose and wonder why they don’t have the same beauty.

Let us do the same. Whatever stage of life we are in may we use all the tools of beauty at our fingertips to love deeply the eternal souls around us and seek to bring beauty to their lives in all the little ways possible.

Be it a smile, an ear to bend, a shoulder to lean on, a small table to tuck one’s feet under or a large table to invite over many, laughter shared, bread broken together, a Walmart bouquet of flowers lovingly plopped into a mason jar or a large bouquet specifically designed for the day….  Whatever it is you have been blessed with may you have eyes to see how it can be used to make life more beautiful and the ability to use it to the glory of God.

May the sunshine warm upon your face. May the rains fall upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Jenny
